The Rhino Velo Race is back on August 23, 2022!
The Rhino Velo race, is a cycling event that members in the local community have been cheering since the return of the rhinos to Akagera in May 2017. Hundreds of people, of all ages, line up on the sides of the roads around the park to cheer on the cyclers with local bicycles. While this is intended to be fun and enjoyable, with prizes for the winners, it also creates awareness of the importance of having the rhinos in Akagera Park. Rwanda has a significant population of black and white rhinos and we have a responsibility to look after them and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the future of the species.
On 23rd August 2022, Rhino Velo Race will resume after two years of absence due to covid-19. On top of the local community members, we are hoping to have more participants from all over Rwanda, residents and internationals, join in the fun. And after the events participants can enjoy a visit to the park since the events will take place nearby the southern entrance of the park. We look forward to seeing you there!
