Gambian griot Jabel Kanuteh and Italian percussionist Marco Zanotti have been playing together as
a duo since 2018, releasing two albums: Freedom of movement (2020) and Are you strong? (2022)
and one single We want to dance (2021)
The dialogue between the kora and the drums is the core of the music of the duo, enriched by
Kanuteh’s vocals and Zanotti’s mbira and percussions, offering a large spectrum of possibilities
specially in the live sessions, which turn out unique music affairs with the audience, whether it
might be in a jazz festival, an underground club or a social happening.
Starting from the mandengue tradition, of which the Kanuteh family is ambassador, the duo moves
towards a universal music that has assimilated Fela Kuti as well as some of the contemporary
currents coming from Africa and its diaspora.
