September 1, 2023 @ 7:00 PM 11:30 PM

A project led by Rwandan choreographer Wesley Ruzibiza, whose first intent is to enhance East African traditional culture, giving a contemporary shape to it.
Born from a research dedicated to traditional dances from Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania and Democratic Republic of Congo, this new creation wants to explore in a refreshingly new way patrimonial dances. Produced by @amizerok

” Creating with African bodies, more often than not perceived as « not disciplined », I want to create a piece that shows the precision, the beauty and the contemporaneity of these bodies and of our traditions. These dances require great discipline and a perfect precision in the performance. The dancers should be in complete control of their bodies, their energies and their stage presences. It is only this way that they would be capable of creating harmonies (like polyphonic singers would do) and of building rhythms variations inside the rhythm proposed by the dance. For me, it is also a way of giving and exploring more freedom: by understanding their history and their heritage, those bodies might be able to break away from the so called universal beauty standards.” ~ @wesleyruz

This piece has toured since 2017 from Europe to East and West Africa. This time around, it’s starting home.
